It would be no different than if it was in your pocket. What's the point, though?

I can't lock mine in the car.

I get a long tone and the information center in the instrument cluster
says key detected in vehicle.

Even if you could, why?

No, you can't lock the smartkey in the car or in the trunk. If you have two smartkeys and want to leave one in the car - like in your wife's purse - you can lock the door with your smarkey but not with the door handle button I believe. And if you do that I think you may have to use your smartkey to unlock the car rather than just touching the handle.

on my expedition (ford) it has a keypad on the drivers door. -I love this feature!

if you are a runner, biker, or scuba diver like me, you can lock your keys in the car, do your thing, and return and enter the digital access code, on the key pad, and get in, get the keys and drive away.

there are a lot of sports that you don't want to carry the keys with you.
-with a smart key, you can't even hide it under the car...

-but to the OP, no, its not possible. without really trying.

Yes, but this is an RF "smart key". Meaning, if anyone touches the handle, the door will unlock. That's what I meant by my question.

It doesn't sound like the OP was looking to lock the FOB in the car, wrapped in copper/foil. I could be wrong, though.

Default Trunk lockout

Ive seen it happen a thousand times. Our AAA shop runs these calls all day.

Park car, step out of car, go to trunk, open trunk, set keys down in trunk, go to drivers door, electronically push lock button on door, or lock with remote.. close trunk

BOOM, locked out, keys in the trunk... Used to happen alot on older models.

Open trunk, lock with remote, set keys down in trunk to move groceries, close trunk..

BOOM locked out, keys in trunk...
Locked out with keys in trunk is so much worse than a standard lockout.. Standard lockout we can open the door with a breach.. Keys in trunk we have to cut a new valet key, if you breach the car, alarm will sound and that will disable the inside trunk button.
