Installed the E & G Black Ice Mesh Grille. The only problem was that the adaptive cruse control stopped working. The system keep warning to clean the radar. Once I removed the emblem it started working again. Conclusion the radar sensor is not effected by the mesh grille. Surprised me because I thought the grille was metal, at least it feels like metal. But sense the radar works with the grille it must not be. Even though not having the emblem on the front looks good, I am working on a way to reinstall it. The kit comes with a metal backing plate to let you be able to mount it. I am modifying the plate so it has the bare minimum amount of metal. Will post the results.
Bottom line: Adaptive Cruse Control does work with the E & G Mesh Grille. I have not notice any degradation in it's control ability.
I was thinking, paint the sensor black so it would not show through the grille and leave the emblem off. I am worried that the paint might effect the sensor since paint has metallic properties. If some one bites the bullet and paints it let me know
Ok the answer to the Emblem and Adaptive Cruse Control. The E & G comes with a metal mounting plate. DON't use the plate. I inserted screws into pieces of plastic then epoxied them to the emblem.
The metal plate blocks the radar
The kit is not a bolt on. It requires cutting parts off your old grille to be used on the new grille. It comes with screws but we used pop rivets for a tighter fit. Basically the kit is are the parts to fabricate the new grille from the old one. Which means you mess up no going back.If in LA I would recommend Mobile Fantasy in Northridge.
