Default what kind of oil in 2013 ES?

There was a rumor that 2013 ES will come with synthetic oil factory fill, or at least lexus will put in writing that you can change synthetic oil every 10K on this car. My understanding that 2013 will have exactly same engine as 2012.
Any information from the owner manual?

I don't know about the motor oil question, but the 2013 will have the same engine and transmission as the current generation ES.

My 2010 RX350 with this same engine came with synthetic oil and a 10000 mile recommended oil change interval. This was a running change during the 2010 model run. I assume Lexus will continue this interval for the 2013 ES.

2012 ES says 5K mile oil change, no extension when using synthetic. Not sure if they will re-word it for synthetic to be 10k

My service advisor told me 0w20 on the '13 ES.

My guess is factory synthetic 0W20 with 10k intervals.

they better revise 2012 models and allow 10K oil change intervals, engine is identical. I drive a lot of highway miles, and want to change oil every 10K miles.

Just go to synthetic and you can do the 10K miles.
After my freebie oil change,I'm staying with 5w30 but going synthetic.

You can go 10k miles, but they're never going to revise the intervals. I personally would still change the oil at 5k intervals on your 2012 even with synthetic just to be sure the warranty stays intact.

I don't put much mileage per at 6K or so and will change one a year with synthetic.I'd never go 10K.Maybe 7500-8000 miles.
You'll may see Toyota revise the '12 to 0w20 and 10k intervals.I believe Toyota has done that before with some models.I'll still use 5w30.Another .2 MPG isn't very important to me.
As far as warranty goes, not many oil related warranty issues have been reported.
If by some very, very slim chance there is an oil warranty issue, the oil can be changed before hitting the dealer.
It's actually 5K miles OR 6 months on dino.

I put 5K every 3 month driving easy highway miles. Synthetic every 10K/6month would make perfect sense. At highway, there is very little wear on the engine.
Its time and miles factor, any oil regardless of miles must be changed every 12 month or sooner.
PS. About revising, sometimes manufactures do that, they send a memo to dealers in the form of TSB. I believe Toyota did it for older models of Camry when they came out with 10K on synthetic, which by the way has same engine as ES 350.

Its all about warranty, if not because of warranty I'd be doing 10K on synthetic already

All of that logic makes perfect sense, but like you said...its all about the warranty.

I've never known Toyota/Lexus to amend their maintenance schedules except to add additional maintenance (the addition of a 15k transmission fluid change in the 02-04 ES for instance). The 2011 is the same car as my 2010, my 2010 requires premium, the 2011 requires only regular. They never sent a memo saying it was okay for me to use regular. I use regular...but I do so at my own peril.

I actually emailed Lexus and asked them that question, you can read their confusing responses... They basically said that you can switch 2012 to 0w20 and change it every 10K but can never go back, yet they won't put it in writing.
2013 will be using 0w20, you can see it in engine pictures.

If the 2013 lexus es350 uses 0w20 synthetic, could you use a 5w30 synthetic as well? The 0w20 oil is so hard to find. I heard that the only difference between 0w20 and 5w30 synthetic is the fuel economy difference.

yeah, 0w20 is primary for better fuel economy. they are up against competition, so need their numbers up. I am pretty sure you can use 5w30 because engine is identical (same model number and everything)... but this might give you warranty issues should you have engine problems (unlikely).
