ES 350 , Year 2015
Hello All,
I am new to this forum. Hoping to get some guidance from experts here. I am looking to buy a 2015 Lexus ES 350 (crafted line), An one owner vehicle, clean records and no damages as per carfax. The mileage on it just under 43K. I did a test ride and the ride was smooth. 4 new tires. I learned that there was a thumping sound which was apparently fixed by the used car dealer. The price is around $20K. So, what do you all think? Should I be checking anything more? Should I stay away from buying it? What is generally the maintenance cost of such old cars? I heard 2015 cars generally have low maintenance cost but wanted your opinion. If someone can give me some pointers or anything more that I should I check or if the price is too high then please let me know.
Thank you,

If you have the VIN you can go the the Lexus Drivers Site, join for free and after entering the VIN look up the dealer service history.
I do this for all used Lexus or Toyota vehicles (Toyota has a similar site).
Be warned that the site is sometimes cranky about finding service histories.
https://www.lexus.com/My-Lexus/account/create-account
To see the service history at Lexus Drivers do the following:
On the page that lists the car whose VIN you entered there will be a line that states
Vehicle Health Report
Learn More - click this box
Then on the next page it will state
My Service
On the right side it will state Service History
View History - click this box to see the service history
The it will slowly take you to a page you need to scroll down to see the service history
Each entry will be a line, click on the + at the side to see more about each entry

What thumping sound are you talking about?
You better have a mechanic check this car out. It might be losing an engine or transmission soon. Generally they are reliable but like anything, can have issues when neglected or for other reasons.
How can you expect people behind screens advise without hearing the thumping sound or knowing its origin?

Without any specifics like location history (dry states ?) or details from the listing/pics, a '15 ES 350 with 43k miles ought to be a reliable vehicle given the year and usage and not even considering it's a special edition for that price range. Carfax is a hit or miss. As others have said, authenticity and track record are essential. Check the record history on the Lex website as mentioned above.
You may also want to check out the Carista app, which connects to the port underneath the driver's side dashboard using an ODB2 dongle. The app will not only perform a diagnostic check and display any fault codes that the car may be experiencing, but it will also enable you to access features that would otherwise need a trip to Lex.
