power steering stop leak
Hi, first post. I have a 2008 ES-350 with 175,000 miles on it. I am leaking power steering fluid and was told that it is the pump that is leaking. I was ready to put Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak in it but then I looked at this forum and found out that the PS uses Dex. III ATF. Should I still use a PS stop leak fluid or something else? The Lucas Trans. fluid says it stops slipping but doesn't seem to mention leaks. Has anyone had any luck with any particular product stopping a PS leak? Thanks.
It uses Dex 2 or Dex 3. You can use Lucas stop leak. You can buy a gasket set for around $30 and you can rebuild the pump or you can buy a used pump for $50-60.

Hey everyone, when I brought my car in for service it seems that the rack end seal that appears to be leaking, not the pump. Would this Lucas Oil Power Steering Stop leak be effective in stopping the leak? Mechanic suggested I replace the whole rack for $3K which seems high.
racks run 200-500 bucks. thats 2500 for labor. there are some pretty tight spaces in there to get at it, so that could be right. if it was me, and it was not leaking bad, like a small drip and have to refill twice a year or something, I'd try the stop leak first.
this is one of those jobs, that while your in there, you may as well replace inner and outer tie-rods and steering boots = that labor has to be done anyway.

Sounds similar to the dribble on a 08 ES350 PS Hose clamp at pump an 'O' ring.. I have replaced the 'O' ring and added a Hose Clamp but no cigar. Unable to see a leak anywhere else. WTF. Next will try Stop Leak....
I didn't see any leakage under the car after It had been sitting for 2 days, I assume the leak stops when the system isn't under pressure? the ps reservoir was just above "Min" so I'll fill it up with the Lucas Oil product and see if that resolves the leaks for good.
I replaced the power steering pump back in October. The bolt on top was on there really tight. After I replaced the pump the return hose started leaking. It took me 8 hours to replace that hose. Seemed like every nut was in a place I could only get about 1/16 of a turn. Make sure it's not the hose leaking instead of the rack. The hose is notorious for failing.
