Custom leather installed over side airbag
Can anyone tell me if the side airbag will function properly after replacing the seat cover with a custom leather job rather than OEM. One shop told me it requires a specific tensile strength thread. Another said it doesn't. Yet another recommended disconnecting the airbag.
Any info to help clear this up would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Any shop that recommends you disconnect the airbag I suggest you don’t go back to. That being said, I wouldn’t imagine it requires a different strength thread because the force of the airbag is so strong. I’m trying to think of seats that have airbags deployed. Maybe try emailing “Katskins” whose sole business is leather seat covers, so I’m sure they would know for sure.

Thanks your suggestion
I agree. Disconnecting the airbag doesn't sound like a good idea.
I still need to find a shop that knows how to do custom covers correctly. I'll try the lead you provided.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The only real option is to replace with a used dash, preferably finding one from up north and in the color of your interior. Replacing is a big job, so do your research. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
