Default Need help with steering lock

One day I get in my car to goto work and steering wheel is locked so car won’t start after trying for a hour it would not become me unlocked. And battery dies at that point towed to Lexus dealer. They said I neeeded to replace the steering column assembly, actuator lock and multiplex. To fix the problem $4000. I bought the parts used all game from same vehicle took to Lexus to install and after installed them they said that the parts can’t be used because they are programmed to a different Vehicle and can’t be reprogrammed. Car has been at Lexus for 2 months. Also the parts they recommend I buy when I look them up say that they are not for my vehicle. Buy for a different model year. I have a 2007 es. I need help. What should I do has anyone replaced these parts before?

I looked at your other threads and Im a 2IS owner who has never had this apart.
If you have the old column, you need to tear it down until you find what failed. In the 2IS it sounds like it runs and electric motor to lock and unlock the steering. Like maybe some kind of DC motor into a worm drive with a gear reduction. DC motors fail. They wear and die. If you can get some hi def pictures, we may be able to help you.

What im thinking is find root cause and keep your old steering immobilizer with the car. Unless its output failed to run the motor then you have a different problem.

You still have the old parts?

I’m not sure lexus removes and installed the used parts i’d Have to check with them also they never gave me a root cause even tho I asked multiple times. Seems like they don’t know how to find the root cause or just do t want to.
This is the estimate

Lets recap; they have your car. They gave you a quote. You bought used parts and brought them in, asked to install them and then what happened?

Sounds like you pay 4k or take it elsewhere.

The bottom line is this; oem installed this unit with bolts that shear off during install. The dealership then forces you to buy the colum and computer.
Another non lex shop may be able to mix and match using a bit of elbow grease.

That or pay up or walk away....
Thats all I've got.

Yes that is correct they said the parts are programmed for a different car that’s why they don’t work so I’m wondering is it the accuator/ecu and multiplex that can’t be used or the steering column as well. Can ijust change the ecu and multiplex with the used steering column asssemly. And how would I go about programming those parts without the help of the Lexus dealership.

This isn't my place, but you're dealing with an 11 or 12 year old car with 200k on it. It may be a better investment (not that a vehicle is ever that) to walk away and try and pick up a 2011 or 2012 model year with 50 or 60k on it.

Just a thought! Good luck regardless
