Default ES350 optional door anti ding moldings

I have an 2007 ES350 which I purchased with the dealer installed door accent mouldings. Two years ago the passenger side rear door molding sprung loose near the front passenger door. I removed the whole molding and re- glued it but the forward end of the molding was sprung out and would not allow it to adhere. I applied heat with a heat gun and was able push it back into alignment. But too much heat I blistered the paint a little. Now the drivers side has done the same thing (looks like its a design problem). I would like to just stick down the forward forward end (removing the whole accent piece is a pain). So 1. has anyone had any success with just sticking down a piece of the molding and 2. how much heat is enough to soften the molding (I have a heat gun and a non touch thermometer)
Thanks for any help
