Default How to remove the high mount third brake light?

My wife's 2010 ES 350 third brake light has an intermittent LED issue. The last 3 LEDs on the pass side flash on/off when the brake is depressed. My understanding is there may be a broken solder joint. My problem is I can't seem to get the assembly out. Does anyone know how the high mount assembly is mounted and how to remove it? I really need to try to fix it since a new assy. is over $400! Thanks

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info.
I managed to get the assembly out and to take it apart.
Apparently, the LEDs are operated in a gang of 4. One of the
LEDs failed in the 'open' mode.
This knocked out the other 3 in the bank.
I managed to solder a jumper around the open LED and put it back together.
It works, albeit with one LED out. Better than spending $400!

Default 3rd brake light cheap fix

I purchased a small led light off amazon and it fit almost perfect. I added a little double back tape just be sure and connected the wires.

I bought a used assembly through an on-line "junk-yard" search site. It shipped quick for about $80 total. Not as cheap as I had hoped, but not $400 either!

My ES seems to have developed this exact same problem. Is there any guides on how to disassemble the light assembly to replace it?

You basically want to look up any guides that are for removing the light assembly, the rear speakers, or the rear shade, because they all require most of the same steps to get to that area. Basically get ready to take apart most of the rear of the car.
