Power steering fluid leak
I have 2007 Lexus ES350 with 61000 miles on it. Yesterday I went for a break fluid flush in Toyota. They told me that there is a leak in power steering fluid, and suggester follwing parts need to be replaced - Power Steering Return Line - $298+Tax, O-Ring on Power Steering Pump - $106.11+Tax, Power Steering Rack and Pinion - $1725+Tax, 4Wheel alignment with Rack and Pinion - $89+Tax. Total comes around $2300. I see the power steering fluid level is lower than minumum, but no visible leak is found. Also I tried putting paper below car overnight. No oil on paper either. Complaining Lexus corporate will help anyway? I am thinking of replacing the fluid with Royal Purple 01326 Max EZ High Performance Synthetic Power Steering Fluid. I heard that the above fluid will fix minor leaks? Any advice?

I think the dealer saw you coming and doesn't really know where the "leak" is coming from, and the non-technical "suggester" is simply reading from a computer template re "low/leaking PS fluid".
Top up the reservoir with the recommended Dexron ll or lll auto tranny fluid ONLY and then monitor the fluid level for the next few weeks. In the meantime if you don't spot the source of the leak yourself and the level does in fact drop indicating a leak then take it somewhere else other than that particular Toyota dealer. Someone else may put a little more effort into the troubleshooting.

I very rarely go to a dealer or for that matter a mechanic. But one thing to remember is if you are told there is a "visual" problem have them show it to you before you consider any work. Next at a potential bill like that I would get a 2nd estimate.

My timing cover leak is dripping down my power steering pump, collect some of the liquid and determine if it is actually power steering fluid or oil. At first glance that's what I thought was leaking but after cleaning and waiting it was clearly coming from above the pump and is oil not the red power steering fluid.
