Default button to open trunk melted info please

ok so i have searched this by using a few different search word combinations but havn't found what i was looking for
first i tried
Switch trunk opener
and Trunk switch button

so far its not coming up with anything about what im looking for

the button on my ES350 for the trunk is melted from all the heat down here in FL im gonig to guess thats why
i found i can get it for like 55 bucks from Sewell so im going to order it
because i don't think my warranty will cover that
but installing it im trying to find out about info for installation
i don't have the money right now to buy a service manual and i don't plan on fixing alot of things on my own anyways

so to be straight forward im hoping someone could explain to me how to go about removing thie old one and installing the replacement properly without damaging any parts
thank you

ok so i think i understand this illustration to be explaining that i need to
remove the inside carpeting on the trunk lid
and then
after this is complete then i start removing things like the license plate frame mounting trims then from there i can remove the switch and install the new one is this correct ?

yes after you have the carpeting off, it will be clearer if you really need to remove the frame mounting trim to get at the switch. when i installed my backup camara i took a picture of the trunk innards

Thumperpup,

If you have an extended warranty through Lexus on your car, I would at least give the dealer a call to see if it's a covered repair. The worst they could say is no. I don't think a part like that should melt just from exposure to the Florida sun. Good luck.

From what I can gather you're talking about the rubber button up underneath the trunk handle?

How the hell did that melt? Even if it's 90-100 degrees which I don't think it is right now in FL, how would it get enough direct heat exposure to melt?

I called the dealer parts department a few days ago for a price check they said whats wrong with it i told them its melted he said really common issue with them here he sees at-least 4 or 5 a week they are replacing just for that issue he always keeps a hand full in stock for replacement

ill call back to the service department tomorrow and see if it is something they would cover

I agree, a lot of these rubber parts are crap. I added a link to Sewell parts in case it's not covered. You will get a discount for being a member to Club Lexus.
