Largest fuel fill yet
My bride has been using the car this week while her car is getting some rust work repair. She came home today and mentioned the fuel light came on . So I took the car out to fill it up and clicked on the miles left on the dash and pulled into the station with 7 miles left showing on the dash. Now when I fill the tank I fill the gas up to just under the cap. I usually put in 15-16 gals. but today I filled it to 17.51 gals. I suspect I must have maybe had a 1/2 gal left.

Did the same thing a long time ago. I was traveling back to Altoona, PA from western PA and the gas price at an Amoco gas station in Altoona was like $.20 / gallon less than what I saw during the day driving. I pulled in and filled it up to like within a gallon or less than what the tank held. I laughed but realized then that the cost of a tow would have far exceeded the saving on the gas. I think I was driving a '84 Caprice Classic Landau coupe. I never live that close to the edge with regard to gas ever again. Thanks for the memory!

Wow, dreyfus, 40 miles! The other day I left for my office with 2 miles left on the distance to empty guage, and made it home with about a gallon left in the tank, a round trip of about 27 miles. It was fun, I went about 22 miles with the guage reading zero miles till empty.

Good to know and I could have gone another 25+ miles before it would have quit. Thanks

"optimistic"
the fuel consumption algorithm its correct in the way that the car has been driven previous to putting any amount of fuel in.
highway using 10l per 100km
put "x" amount of fuel in - shows 600km to go
urban using 15l per 100kms
put "x" amount of fuel in - shows 500km to go
city using 25l per 100km
put "x" amount of fuel in - shows 425km to go
it shows the median average not the mean
instantaneous is the mode average

sounds like you might be using the tank reserve once it passes 0. Point in case, my range usually averages 360miles to 0. I've gone past it to see if I could go to 400miles. By then I was close to fumes. Its ok every now and then, but its harder on the fuel pump (possibility of overheating) the farther you go past 0 every time.

Yes, it does calculate based upon the previous useage, but in my case even if the previous useage for the last four fill-ups is the same, the range will still be underreported.
Lexus no doubt wants to be conservative and not have an owner stranded because of a dry tank. But a guage or meter that pads its data is an irritation to me and is displaying inaccurate information. Give me real data. I want my tank to be empty when the needle is fully on E, not "empty except for an unspecified amount". I want my range display to be as accurate as possible, not "this far plus another unspecified distance".
It's like setting your clock ten minutes ahead so you are on time. I'd rather set my clock accurately, thank you, and use that real time display to plan accordingly.
