Default Oil Testing results

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd share the results of my oil testing done by http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

I've used them twice so you can see the difference that an extra 1000 miles does to the oil - in my case almost nothing. The lab is suggesting I extend my service intervals to 7,500 miles.

Any comments welcome.

cool. ok a few questions. how much does it cost to get a sample tested? what do you have to do? also i have mobil1 extended in the car now but what about the filter? I dont get it lexus has changed to 10k miles but what about the filter? are you changing the filter halfway? the only extended filter i see is mobil1. all the rest look like paper filters.

Good point about the filter, perhaps I'll start changing the filter and adding a 1/2 quart in the middle of oil changes if I end up going to 7,500 miles. With that said, I'm not ready to go to 7,500 miles. I'm going up by 500 miles at a time and seeing what the results come back as. Next oil change will be in a little less then 6K miles, I'll let you know.

my hondas are/were 7500 and i use dino oil and purolator filters but they are leases too but i can buy better filters because they dont use the ridiculous can like toyota. i think its idiotic and much more a pain then a simple screw on.

lexus is now 10k on the 2011 but i think its the same paper filter and for the most part you cant get any better filters than just the regular paper filter. the only filter i see is mobil 1. amsoil, royal purple, fram x2, k&n, bocsh extended, ect doesnt make anything for toyota cans.

Could someone read their 2011 manual and see if it states you have to use a certain filter and or change it at 5k or something else? It should at least say synthetic only.

The manuals are online now...
http://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/do...f/11ESGSLS.pdf

Look at page 70 if you want to see it yourself, but there's no information about the specific oil filter element required...

I wonder about the interval as if it's a way to make more margin on a car Toyota has already sold - sort of cynical I know but I wouldn't put it past some bean counter to pad the margins by making you come in one extra trip per year. (2x7,500 miles vs. 3x5,000 miles)

I've heard for years and year that oil can go wayyyyy past 3k ya know. I read about amsoil long ago but never used it and have never gone past 7500 on an oil change. My little turbo awd eclipse I beat the hell out of so it gets changed at 3 k still because I know that turbo is getting the oil super hot and making it dirtyier quicker.
