I have seen some posts saying that ES350 with VIN numbers beginning with a J ( Made in Japan) are not subject to recall. This is confusing..is this so ??
Also, all I can find is that all ES350 are made in Japan. Anyone have clarification of this ?

Canadian built vehicles VIN start with a number 2.

 

If you want to know what recalls are out for your vehicle, type in your VIN on the Lexus.com site.

 

I am pretty sure all ES350 are built in Japan so will by default begin with J. They do build some of the RX's in Canada though.

 

Can not confirm 100% but a quick VIN decode for the ES350:

First 3 digits: Country of manufacture / company / plant code
JT4 or JTJ = Toyota, made in Japan

Digits 4 - 8: Model and Powertrain Options
????? = Model of ES350, the pattern, etc (mine is BJ46G = ES350, premiuim)

Digit 9: Check digit - computed based on all other digits

Digit 10: Model Year
7 = 2007
8 = 2008
9 = 2009

Digits 11 - 17: Serial Number

 

All Lexus's are manufactured in Japan (J). Except the RX, with some coming from Canada.

IS350 is correct all Lexus's are manufactured in Japan, except for a few RX's as he stated.
