Only 29 Highway MPG for 08 ES 350
On a recent trip between Dallas and Houston which was about 270 miles each way, I only averaged 29 highway mpg. Is this good, bad or indifferent? If bad, how do I improve that? My average speed was between 75-85 mph depending upon traffice conditions. Also I only have 2000 miles on my car. Thanks.

The ES350 is rated by the EPA at 27 mpg highway, so 29 mpg at 75-85 mph isn't bad at all IMO.
I get 30-32 mpg at speeds under 70 or so.
Probably the best way to improve your mpg are slower speeds, in the 65-75 mph range.

What kind and grade of fuel are you guys burning. Im seeing the same out of mine and I've been running regular. I just finished running a couple of tanks of premium with no improvement, maybe a little less. I have noticed a difference in different brands of gas. some do show improvements over others. But over all the care gets great mpg and if you can keep your foot out of it, it will surprise you. I have found that I can do better than the cruise control by accelerating on the down hill and decelerating on the up hill.

At those speeds, that is very good mileage for a car this size. You might get a slight improvement with more miles on the car, but it won't get a lot better. If you drove at 70 mph, you would be getting mileage in the low 30 mpg range. Can you get any better? You could switch to synthetic oil, set tire pressures to 35 psi, and run with the air conditioner shut down and maybe get another 2 mpg or so. I have friends with a VW with a 4 cylinder engine who get slightly worse highway mileage than my ES350.

The average speed is the culprit. Average 60-65 and you would be amazed at the increase in fuel efficiency. I've found I get my best gas mileage in that range. Going 75-85 and getting 29 MPG in a Lexus is phenomenal.

A lot of folks have reported better myself included. We just did a trip to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving. I got a tad over 30 heading up there into a stiff head wind the whole way and white out conditions through the mountains on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. (I have a new loathing for that highway as we almost got rear ended by a 16 wheeler.) Got about 32 on the way home in much better conditions. Probably averaged about 70 mph both ways.
I did see 33 on one trip home from there. All actual mileage, not computer.

That was over the 9 plus years I owned it. It was one of the reasons I decided to buy a new one.
I'm **** about gas mileage. As a boat freak...I've learned how to be.

people should report if they are using ethanol added gas or not.
I have gotten over 30 ( 33 ) but that was really paying attention to the car, not going into passing gears, no heavy throttle, taking my foot off the gas going downhill and easing into the throttle going up hill, and staying under 70mph.
We have fairly flat roads here, and I always use 87 octane with 10% ethanol.
