Oil Change DIY??
Does anyone change their own oil on their ES350? I have the filter cartridge 'elements' and would like to do it myself, but the dealer told me that they have to remove some shields and then the oil gets over everything. Seems like they aren't using the poly drain tube that comes with each filter. Any ideas will be welcome.
Oil changes are $50.00 here in Naples FL

I did my last oil change in my driveway on ramps, but I had to put some boards in front of the ramp to get the air dam raised up enough to clear. I don't have a shield covering the filter housing and it doesn't look like anything is missing. The oil change was no problem. Just make sure you have proper wrench to loosen up the canister. After you install the new filter cartridge in the canister carefully and slowly prime the canister with oil. Then reinstall it on the filter block. This will help minimize dry start up. I think the book says 6.5 qts for our engine, but I haven't put in over 6 on two changes.

I assume you inserted the poly drain piece and then put a piece of vinyl hose on it or just let it drain into the waste container. If so, how does the drain thing work. Does it start to drain as you are 'forcing' the poly piece into the housing or???
Thanks

Also find attached a PDF explaining the oil change process on a 05/06 Avalon, which should be identical with that of the ES350. Hope that helps out.

the dealer knows I do my own work, he just cautioned me on something to pay attention to when changing the oil, maybe something with the o-rings in the filter housing or something
as for knowing if you got the oil change you paid for- simply pull the dipstick and check to see if the oil is clean, and full.
