Default Power rear sunshade on ES350

First post here! I am trying to figure out how the Power rear sunshade supposed to work here and not able to locate anything from "search".

Here is how I "think" it should work so please tell me if I am wrong.

1) Reverse - Power rear sunshade goes down automatically.

2) Drive - as soon as you hit certain mph, Power rear sunshade goes up automatically.

Now, 1) works all the time. It is 2) that I have problems with. It seems that it only goes up by itself once in awhile, other times, I have to push the button to activate it.

Thanks for your help!

When you make your service appointment have them look at it as it should go up when in drive and reaching 9 mph, but it says in manual if not operating properly you can do as you are doing, use the switch.

It should go up on it's own though without you having to do that so it needs to be looked at and repaired.

If you activate the power rear sunshade with the power button it should:

1- Go up and stay there if the transmission shift is either in park or neutral.

2- It will retract when you shift into reverse, and then go up if you return to either park or neutral.

3- The speed of the car should not affect the operation.

It should indeed go back up if you travel forward exceeding a certain speed. I havent used it since i got my windows tinted. I'll try it this afternoon.

You're not the only one--mine is hit-or-miss after shifting out of reverse too...sometimes the shade automatically goes back up, sometimes it doesn't. I'll test to see if it's maybe because I'm shifting into D w/o waiting more than a nanosecond after bringing the vehicle to a complete stop after completing the reverse maneuver...I seem to think that when it does operate correctly, it's because I kept my foot pressed on the brake pedal for roughly a second after coming to a stop upon reversing, then shifting into D.
