Default XM radio antenna placement?

I am giving serious consideration to adding the XM radio equipment to my ES350 and have some questions for any who have experience with the installation.

I read here somewhere that an antenna was placed inside the back window and worked. Will this work with the rear sunshade up? I downloaded the installation instructions and see the recommended location is on the top of the trunk lid, which I will not do, so if inside the car does not work I'm done.
Thanks,
Bob

I had the XM radio installed in my ES350 and requested that the antenna be mounted inside the car next to the third break light as close as possible to the rear glass. The installation was perfect, I don't know how they did it but I can't find any trace of the antenna wire inside the trunk. It's work very well no problem. As for the sunshade no problem.

osokuko,
Thanks for the prompt reply and feedback. I will probably buy the XM kit and do the install myself placing it in the back window next to the third brake light.
Thanks,
Bob

I had looked at the install download also, but it looked to be to much for me. As I said they did a good job and I couldn't fine the antenna wire any place in the trunk, I only know that the antenna wire inside the car went under the black part of the rear window glass and under the carpet, from there I have no idea. So if it looks easy for you save the bucks and for it.

Mine is placed on the truck, in the center, right near the 3rd break light. It was installed at the dealer. I was told the installation is different at the port, usually on the right side of the truck near the rear quarter panel.

I wanted mine outside the car to avoid losing a signal in garages, under bridges, etc. I am sure it looks better inside the car, but I did not want to take any chances of a poor signal.

Thumbs up xm antenna placemant

I have a 2005 es330 with nav and xm. The dealer installed xm antenna is on the back deck next to the breake light, and works very well. I cant notice any problems with dropped signal, or poor reception. Plus I have tinted windows and you don't even notice it being there.

Mount it inside the rear window, there will be no reception problems. I can't stand the ghetto exterior mounts!

I want to get the satellite radio but my only issue is the antenna. I have to get the shark fin one. I have seen the GS's with them already so anyone know where to get one that works? Thanks!

Default Antenna Placement - 2003 SC430

I am in the process of having an installer purchase and install an XM Commander Touch in my 2003 SC 430. I am also concerned about the antenna placement, and am leaning heavily on "inside and on the back deck by the third brake light". I live in the Southern CA area and based upon what I read, this placement does seem to work very well. My installer and I are going back and forth about placement on the roof, directly above the windshield centered on the rearview mirror. My windows are not extra tinted and the thought of this magnetic antenna, which is black placed on my blue car is not very attractive to me.

I did consider the outside but painting it to match the car color but some say that might interfere with signal reception. Any words of wisdom and or advice from anyone? I am a new Lexus owner....
