Pre-purchase inspection
Had pre purchase inspection done on 2015 ES w 74k miles. $23,800 out the door. Car’s at independent lot. One owner, no accidents, garage kept. Pretty good hx. It’s the owner of the auto dealers friends wife’s car.
Brought car to Lexus dealership for pre-inspection. They recommended new water pump (seeping trace amount fluid on pulley and bracket). Brake fluid flush (cuz it was dirty and overfilled). Will need new tires in short term and new rear brakes.
Car drives real smooth. Feels good. But this is all like $3500 in work. What do you Lexus owners think of that deal ??????

It’s one of those no haggle places. Price is price. They said they’ve give me an extra 500 for my trade in. So I didn’t take it. Said I need to think it over.
I know used cars aren’t going to be perfect but it’s just a lot $ needed in the first 6 months of owning. Maybe I’m better off buying at Lexus dealership?? Although I’ve heard stories that even their cars need stuff done after purchase ???

Perhaps the dealer will meet you half way. Propose they take off $1800.00 towards the repair and see what they say. Remember: The worst they can do is say "no"... Don't be shy.
Worth a shot IMO.
GOOD LUCK!

Also see if you can get a repair estimate from a Toyota dealer rather than Lexus...it is, after all, essentially an upmarket clone of a Toyota Avalon with the same suspension and drivetrain components.
I am not going to comment about the overall cost as I am not up-to-date with the current market. I am just going to touch on the inspection report.
The rear tires and brakes are a wear item - you should not expect a discount on a used car because some "wear" parts are not in brand new condition. Same applies to a brake fluid flush.
The water pump will probably last till 100k/10years like this. At that point you would need to replace the coolant and accessory belt anyway - adding a water pump to the list would only add ~$130 in parts and maybe $200 in labor.

You were smart to get the inspection done. If you can be patient you will find a better deal from a private party or another car dealer. I'm currently looking for a good used one 2016 or newer under $32k. Between Carfax, Autotrader, Kelly Blue Book, Craigslist and Facebook market place there are lots of reasonably priced options. Good luck!
