I understand there was a recall on the pearl white IS models. Enough people complained so they had to do something.

Yep! I had to pay to have the car repainted. They were cool and gave me 50% off the labor rates that they charge insurance companies.

I understand you didn't like spending the money, but based on the pictures you posted, they appear to have done a wonderful job. Your car looks GREAT.

Thank you! I do have to take it back in a couple week to fine tune some minor things I caught but nothing major. Glad they're willing to make it right. Looking forward to putting this behind me.

Default Es350 2011

My ES started peeling about 11 months ago and I got several quotes because I was pretty sure since my car was 10 years old Lexus wouldn’t be if any help. All three body shops stated the same thing that it appeared to be a manufacturer defect of the paint, so I called Lexus corporate. They told me no guarantee but take it to the local Lexus service and ask for a diagnosis of the paint, which I did and they got back to me yesterday. The service manager told be that Lexus was willing to assist and now I have to take it to their body shop to get the estimate done. I will keep you all posted. My roof, trunk and front under my head lights as well as around my license plate has excessive peeling. It is embarrassing driving the car and that is exactly what I told Lexus corporate.

I know how you feel. I was humiliated to drive the car. I did go to a Lexus collision shop and they told me to call corporate. I have a case on file but they were not willing to do anything at this point but told me to save any receipts for the repair as there may be something they can do in the future. I poured my heart out to them but until the case load hits a certain number, there is nothing they can do. What year is your ES? I should check in with corporate periodically to see if they're willing to reimburse.

Default Peeling paint white Rx350

[my paint has drastic peeling too. Some on top coat and some all the way to the metal. It’s a 2013 that was garage stores for over 4 years. I don’t know what to do either.
QUOTE=LisaES350;10972550]Thank you for your replies. I took it to the Lexus collision center and they told me they've never seen anything like this on an 8 year old car and advised that I call corporate. They said I was looking at a minimum of $8,000. I'll look around for additional quotes as I'm sure the Lexus body shop is more expensive than most.

I am the original owner and it has always been washed at a hand wash place and I've been diligent about waxing. The plastics started fading about a year ago and the hood started about 5-6 months ago. There has never been a repair or paint done on the hood. So disappointing. My lock actuators have been replaced but other than that the car has been great. Seems that all is well mechanically. Wasn't planning on spending thousands on a paint job at this point. Ugh![/QUOTE]

Call corporate and open a case and see what they'll do. I had to pay out of pocket.

Where did you get the paint job done? Would you recommend the company? How Much?

Dude, I have the same exact issue. Matador Red. Also 2010 but GS350. Can we start building up a case? I can provide pictures showing that the paint is peeling in the same exact way.

Updated, it got worse since the last pictures I took. I wrapped my roof because my roof is completely gone already.

LISA, my 2010 started doing this - failing clear coat - in 2020. Just a small section of the rear hatch. I hand waxed it WEEKLY & that kept it from getting any worse. Then in 2022, SUDDENLY, my hood, door handles & small sections of the roof ALL have FAILED CLEAR COAT. 3 different pro detailers have told me this - & now refuse to detail my RX450h, not wanting to be blamed, no doubt. It's happening to SO many Lexus Matador Red Mica vehicles regardless of model. Why Lexus seems ok with their vehicles driving around looking like this is beyond comprehension, even if they don't want to stand behind their product.
This is NOT your fault, my fault or ANY other owner's fault. THIS. IS. LEXUS' FAULT & WITH LUXURY VEHICLES, ONE EXPECTS THAT PAYING HIGH PRICE MEANS YOU WILL RECEIVE A QUALITY PRODUCT AND THAT LEXUS STANDS BEHIND THE QUALITY OF THEIR VEHICLES, BUT, in these cases of failed clear coat on most of their vehicles painted with MATADOR RED MICA, but it seems it will take a class action lawsuit to get them to act properly. I'm in, are you?

Thank you for the contact info, Lisa... It's incredible Lexus would want their luxury vehicles to drive around looking like this - despicable, really. I'm calling tomorrow. Thanks again
