Default plastic air inlet

Hello, I have a 1997 ES300 in good shape, 196,000 miles. Runs well.
I noticed today that the plastic spoiler attached to the frame in front of the radiator has been torn off.
Just small plastic pieces attached to the screws.
I am assuming that it took one too many scrapes on parking stops.
Temperature gauge still stays in the same place, on line below middle of the gauge.
Does this piece of plastic serve a necessary function?
Is it necessary to replace it?
Thanks

Just took a look at my '98, and other than esthetics, I wouldn't worry about it, at least 'til next summer in FL. you can see then if it makes any difference.
