Default leaking rack & pinon

My toyota dealer stated my rack and pinon is leaking for my 08 es 350 and quoted $2000 to fix does this sounds right? whats the worse that could happen if i dont fix this immediately?

They didnt say how bad it was just that i needed to be replaced. I will call them to find out how bad the leak was.

As a quick check I would check the Power Steering fluid and make sure it is topped up. Check your owners manual to see how they want you to check it. Then drive it for a week and see how much fluid you have lost. Also it would be good if you can find a garage where you can get the car up on a lift and see for yourself where the leak is and how bad. Remember "trust but verify".
