Default Grease for CV axle boot

My driver side inner CV axle boot is leaking grease at the out of the end of the boot at the small clamp. I wanted to try and fix it without removing the axle by removing the bad clamp, injecting fresh grease into the boot with the clamp off, and then replacing the clamp with a screw type hose clamp.

I am concerned about putting the appropriate grease in the boot so it is compatible with the remaining grease. Any ideas on what grease I should buy? I see that Lexus sells a boot kit with grease, but it is $40.

Any issues with using a screw hose clamp on the boot?

Hose clamps will work just fine.

Go to an auto parts store and look for CV joint grease. They are all pretty much compatible so no problem there. Just squeeze the boot to see if you have some grease in the boot. You may want to get a needle end fitting to a grease gun and injest some grease. Don't need to put in a lot so maybe a couple of pumps or a 1/4 cup.

I purchased a grease gun and a 1.5" needle attachment and inserted the needle between the axle and the boot. I used a small flat screwdriver to create some space between the boot and axle so the needle easily and fully slipped into the gap, as there were some hidden features on the axle that stopped me from fully inserting it otherwise. I used Valvoline synPower grease and added the grease until it started oozing back out of the gap.
The groove on the boot that the original boot clamp fits into is only a little over 7mm wide, so I didn't feel comfortable using a hose clamp on it since it is about 11mm wide. So i used a black cable tie and tightened it as best I could. I read on some other forums of people successfully using cable ties on cv boots. Tomorrow I will check for any grease leakage after a planned 20 mile drive.

A tough zip tie is a good idea.
