2019 es350
The shorter trunk lid seems like a sportier look and as Lexus has stated they are targeting a younger age group I would imagine this fits right into their strategy.
If the Generation 7 trunk opening is even smaller, which appears to be likely, I would consider that to be a practical drawback.
A true "fastback trunk" would be designed with the back window being a part of the "trunk lid" and the hinges would be above the back window. With that entire lid lifting as a unit, there would be a very large opening to the trunk space. But I can't imagine that Lexus would have chosen to go that route with the Generation 7 ES.
With continuing low demand for sedans, it becomes increasingly difficult for Lexus to justify continuing to offer 4 sedan lines, and, with fewer than 8000 GS vehicles sold for the entire 2017 model year, the GS would be the likely candidate to be dropped from the line. Further, the Generation 5 LS was designed to appeal to some GS buyers, and the Generation 7 ES appears to be designed to appeal to those at the other end of the GS buyer spectrum.
If, in a year or two, Lexus adds an AWD version of the ES, I suspect that they feel that, between it and the LS F Sport, they will be offering cars at two different price points that would appeal to current GS buyers.

There is no doubt that the value of a Generation 6 ES will take a hit after the official announcement of the 2019 ES, and there will be another hit when the 2019 ES arrives at dealer showrooms.
The good news, however, is that this will be a great time to buy a new 2018 ES. There are already significant discounts from MSRP available for the 2018 ES, and those will only get bigger as we move through the summer and fall. On the other hand, for those looking to buy a new 2019 ES when they become available, discounting is likely to be minimal at least until well into the 2019 model year.

I guess why I am asking is I am searching for a used ES 350 now, 2015 and wonder if they will drop in prices after this weeks announcement. I am ready to buy just have to find the right car, with the right mileage at a fair price.
But much of that loss of value has already been priced into the re-sale market because a 2019 Generation 7 ES has been anticipated for a year and a half or 2 years. Also, whatever loss there is in the value of a Generation 6 ES will be much bigger, say, for a 2018 ES than it will be for a 2015 ES.
they hit it out of the park with the new es
kind of makes sense
eliminate the Gs, have better driving dynamics that was in the GS mold it into the Ls,
Come up with a 50,000 volume sales sedan that will take on the world.
they struck the right balance with the exterior and the updates to the grille blend in with the combo of sport/luxury of the exterior
lets see what do they do in beijing with the interior.
good job toyota, see toyota your customer base can be fair and objective when you pursue perfection like my 3 LS's i have had

There is a Thread on the 2019 ES here too. Just in case others didn't know it.

NICE!!
Man.... one of the main reasons I didn't buy a brand new ES was because I was wanting a red & black interior -just like in the video. Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait til my next one.
Looks freaking awesome!!
hi all, bunch of new videos on youtube today
this is going to be a home run for lexus
looks nicer than the current gs
has fwd but should handle in between current es and the gs which is a good think the new platform should handle well not as good as rwd but the car would be 7500 more if it had a rwd platform
the interior is nice and yes apple car play is in the videos
the f sport is a nice variant of the car for those looking for a sportier car
all in all lexus needed a home run and looks like they succeeded good job toyota

Here's another article with about 20 pictures. Ignore the fact they call it an "ES300".

I don't know, but I thought I seen a spy shot of what looks to be a test mule for the 5th gen GS. I was currently waiting for the 5th gen GS to come out to make my first new car purchase (depending on it's looks). If the GS is truly no more, then I'll just settle for a used 4th gen...damn that new ES is beautiful, if only that was the redesigned 5th gen RWD GS.....
I got an email from Lexus. Here is a link to the 2019 Lexus ES announcement: http://www.lexus.com/documents/broch...April_2018.pdf
I really like the current (2014 ES) inset of the display to keep the Sun out. I've always desired a larger display, but it'll be interesting to see how it handles with glare, etc.
