I've had my car since Thanksgiving, and absolutely love it. Traded in my Rode Hard and Put Away Wet 2003 ES 300 for a 2016 ES 350 in immaculate condition - no scratches, dings, wheel scuffs, nuttin. Until yesterday. I was pulling my seatbelt buckle around to lock it in and I hit the wood of the steering wheel with the buckle. Now I've got a little dent in an otherwise perfect steering wheel. I know, First World Problems, but I sure wish I had paid better attention. I will from now on, that's for sure.

Anybody know a good trick for raising the dent? The finish isn't damaged, just a dent.

 

Perhaps if you steam it?

 

Steam a wood steering wheel? Any proof that would work?

 

One way to raise a dent in wood is to wet the dent and place an iron on it. The wood will swell, raising the dent. Unfortunately, since the wheel is heavily varnished I don't think the water will penetrate and raise the dent.

 

I wondered about the finish, but the iron on a damp/wet rag is a well known method of steaming dents out of wood, and is used on all manner of dents and dings.

 

I've never tried it before, but maybe I'll give it a shot. Would super-suck if I made it worse!

 

It won't make the dent worse, but I'm not sure what the finish is on the wood, so ..............
