I'm planning on clearing my tail lights this weekend since I'm home from school and I was wanting to know a couple things. I've done my headlights, so I know how to do the heating and prying, and if I remember correctly the tail lights will be more fragile, is that correct. I also would like some tips from anyone who has done the tail lights before. Which side of the housing should I start on and should I take it all the way apart? One more thing, aren't there some tabs in the tail light housing? Thanks for the help guys.

 

be very careful with the tail lights. They are defintely more fragile. The first time I did mine, I split the lense. Then I had to get a new tail light. Just be careful and take your time and you will be fine.....

 

Any suggestions on which side of the housing to start on? I figure if I get one end open I can take out the orange and not have to open the housing all the way.

 

Unless you get lucky, you will have to take the entire housing apart. The orange piece doesnt slide out with ease. IT needs a little force to be yanked out. Just be careful and take your time....

 

Start from the inside of the lights (by the license plate). There are a couple pins holding the lights together on the outside edge; I couldn't easily pull them out but I managed to get it without completely opening the lights. If you can open them enough to pull out the whole strip with the turn signal and backup lights, it might be a tight fit but it'll slide out without totally opening the light. Then you'll have to basically break the orange lens out of the black piece, use some force.

BTW, I did put one very small crack in each of my lights, but sealed up the cracks on the inside, so be very careful.
