Lexus Jealousy
happens to me constantly. if you have a lexus people either hate you or think you have a million dollars. plenty of the "fancy camry" comments over the years, usually turns into a fight lol. I drive a 1995 Ls400 and everyone thinks its only a few years old. I get people asking me for money everywhere I go, it attracts women like magnets
You win some, you lose some.
I always have my cars looking clean, no matter what I drive people always assume it's near new, since they perceive it as such due to the condition.
It's a matter of pride, I've gotten more compliments from my old, "well used" ES300 with people thinking its a couple years old than some people with brand new LS460's since the only time theirs would shine is when the dealer [half-***] washes it once a week...
Pride of ownership always comes through.
For the most part I've gotten good comments vs. bad. I heard the camry thing in the past. Turned around the comment and made people feel dumb about it. Saying something like "I had an extra couple of bucks in the piggy bank, so I splurged for the L instead since it wouldn't kill me to do so"

Mine's washed 2-3 times a week, its always spotlessly clean.
I think a lot of it depends on the circles you run in. Cars like my Lexus aren't unique or special at all where I am.
I don't have an issue with it at all. I drive Lexus vehicles because they fly under the radar.

Is your car being washed a few times a week at those automatic car wash things? That'll wreck your paint pretty fast. I'd get a detailer to prep and coat the car with a durable ceramic coating to reduce the damage. It also makes the car easier to wash.

Just got my 2016 ES300 hybrid last week and being that my coworkers knew I was getting a new car due to some crazy hail storms that totaled my other car. The first thing they say is ohhh a fancy camry lol... and some other Lexus hater comments. I'm sure they were just messing with me but I find it funny that it just happened to me yesterday and I see this post.

I think that a lot of the (insert brand/model here, because it pops on other sites as well) jealousy is more perceived than actual. I see it on Audi and BMW forums that I look in on and I'm sure that it's on others as well. We have nice cars that are out there in the world with other nice cars.
After all, the ES line is the entry level Lexus models. When anyone oohs and Ahhhs I remind them that it's only a low cost Lexus and there are models that can cost $100,000 and more. And this one costs less than $50k.
I really wanted an Audi but couldn't afford the one I wanted.

Hello all. New member here. I'll be picking up my "New to me" 2013 ES350 today.
Years ago I had a 1999 GS 400, and some people would hit me with the "It's really just a Toyota". Then I bought a 2007 Acura TL Type-S, and I would get "It's really just a Honda". I would have to say that the common denominator in the types of people that made those comments was that they were categorically obnoxious and rude in all things. Just my observation.
