genesis vs es
Agree with you. I go to Japan several times each year. Toyota has a facility called Toyota City Showcase at Odaiba in Tokyo..sort of a waterfront theme area with mall, restaurants, etc. At the showcase you can see all their products, concept vehicles, ride a race simulator and drive some of the cars on an enclosed track. Best of all is they have lots of cars, all with the price on them, all available to sit in, look in etc. Not a sales facility, simply a showcase type of place. I saw some very nice Crown's in there (and yes, the price can get pretty high)
There is no doubt that Lexus dealers are much better than Hyundai dealers. The dealer here has no problem with a 10% off deal on the Genesis, but even so its a low rent experience that the person who buys an Accent has, which is an issue.
I wish Hyundai had gone ahead and created a luxury brand.

Especially as these cars are aimed at the luxury end and they're genuinely new, not like Acura's tarted up Hondas. I had a TSX before which was simply sold as a Honda Accord or Accord Euro, with the normal Honda dealership experience. It was decent but Lexus service is on another level. That's what Hyundai need to do.
On the other hand, I walked into a Jag Land Rover dealer while my car was having an oil change and man, they sure as heck made me feel like I couldn't afford a JLR product. Lexus has the balance right - a touch of luxury without the snobbishness.

I wish they brought the Crown to the States. To me, it would be like the second coming of the Cressida.

Thats just absolutely not true. The new Genesis is an excellent car, and anybody who likes the ES would have nothing to dislike about the Genesis, except perhaps subjective styling and brand. Everything thats good about the ES is also good about the Genesis...in fact better in a lot of ways. Its smoother, quieter, more refined, has just as much room, has higher quality interior materials. Not a knock specifically against the ES, I feel its superior to my GS in a lot of ways too.
My guess is you have not driven a new Genesis, and even if you have your bias against it won't let you give it a fair shake.

The fact that Genesis sales are +75% thru Feb vs.last year indicates that they are on the right track with the new gen and that actual buyers are interested.
It's not selling at ES levels 5,300 vs. 8,300) but it is currently outselling the GS (3,500).
