Default Changing rear struts, need advice

Hey guys,

I have a 02 Es with approx. 146K km (91K) miles on it.

There is a loud knocking sound coming from the rear passenger side when the car goes over small bumps or minor imperfections in the road . No noise when going over large/medium bumps.

After changing the right side link and strut mount along with lubricating the caliper to no avail, mechanic is suggesting that I change the rear struts.

I would like to keep the ride on my car as close to original. However Lexus Canada is selling rear struts for $228 + tax which is expensive. I would appreciate it if anyone can recommend a brand/model (and website) that maintains OEM quality ride?

before you go ahead and purchase new struts, i would recommend you to check if any bolts are loosen thats holding the strut. I acutally had the same problem like you, except it was in the front, everytime i ride over bumps or pothole a clinging bangs noise type that you describe happens. I "shook" up the car found out the bolts inside the mount was loosen, tighten that thing up, and now its riding how it supposes to be.

BostonVP,

Thanks for your reply

I will take a look at the nuts holding the strut in place however I highly doubt that they are at fault. The strut mount was changed.

I tried "shaking" the car too at the back but no noise. It only occurs on small, sharp bumps.
