!?!?Winshield Replace?!?!?
Man that really stinks. I had some crap like that happen to me downtown chicago twice.. Not as bad, but one time i came out and a motorcylce was kicked over, while being illegally parked behind me in the street, and landed on teh back of my car. A month later I come out to find a dent in my trunklind like someone threw a big rock or a person on it. It is also scratched down to the bare surface.. F'n people I swear.. Jealous or what I dont know, but thats life.

Along the drive home from work today, I started to hear wind noise coming from most likely the top part of the windshield. This starts to happen when I go 30 mph, and the noise gets louder at gradually higher speeds. Since I have full glass coverage with $0 deductible, I should be able to have the windshield replaced for free at, say, a Lexus dealership, correct? If so, what's the approach? Have Lexus look at the windshield --> call up insurance --> schedule appt? This is probably a good time to do that anyways since I also have a few tiny stone chips on the windshield.

, but will I see my insurance premium rise if I choose to have the insurance company cover the windshield replacement?
My insurance did NOT go up after I put in a claim for a broken right passenger window! I don't know whether this holds true with all auto insurance policies though. I have full glass coverage so I had my Lexus dealer do the replacement.
Doug, when I had my shield replaced on my last car, I called my insurance, they said take it to whomever I wanted to. That shop will contact the insurance company and get the claim number. When I asked if they needed to see it, the insurance agent said no. My guess is cause it was my first time claiming glass on that car or that I never claimed before with this company. We are allowed one free windshield replacement per year in MA.
Tell the insurance (ok, ask them) to allow the work to be done at a Lexus dealership because of the mounted stuff on the window and you want Lexus glass. It should not be a problem.
Also, for the time being, a bead of windshield sealant or aquarium sealent should keep the wind and noise and water out.

if the insurence covers it, I say go for the dearler route. if not, shop around your area (yellow page will do the magic
) and find the best price for the OEM replacement. (I found one shop in my area that only cost me $125 for my nissan pick up windshield, and $95 for my Camry driverside window)

Just to give you an idea of how much my Lexus dealer charged to replace the right door passenger glass in a '94 ES about 2 years ago.........$350.73! Like I said I had full glass coverage so it didn't cost me anything.
Insurance companies get claims for windshield all the time and they usually don't blink. They only take notice when you insist on OEM. If you get a good/nice adjuster, they usually let you get the OEM glass.
There have been members who have gotten the PPG "nonOEM" glass and like them just fine. I had mine replaced earlier this year and insisted on OEM. Like I said, they took notice but let me do it anyway.
