1999 ES300 AC compressor bypass
I have a 1999 ES300 3.0L that has a seized AC compressor which caused the belt the tear up. I was told that I need a new AC compressor, belt, and freon refill. I was quoted anywhere $820-1100 for the work here in Chicago area. The car still runs though I know that the battery is not charging anymore.
Though it would be nice to have AC back on with the upcoming summer, money is tight. Is it possible to bypass the compressor with a shorter belt? I read on toyota campry forums that it can be done by placing a shorter serpentine belt.
Currently, my AC/heater control dash is blank when car is on and no air is flowing through the vents. Would I be able to use a heater in the winter if I can get bypass working?
