My friend has an 08 ES350 Ultra Lux with the 08 maps.
How hard is it to update the maps? Where does the DVD go? Does the DVD stay in the car and the car reads the data off the DVD? Are the DVD's one time use only (can't use on two + cars)?

Yes, the DVD stays in the car and is read as needed. You can reuse DVDs in multiple cars (but obviously only one at a time). Buy the DVD and install it yourself to save $$$.
