1MZ-FE experts needed
Long story short I became the owner of a 97 toyota avalon that broke a rod and i purchased it for $400. I want to find a used engine to swap in. The problem is i dont know all the tiny differences between the years and chassis that have the 1MZ
im assuming a 97 es300 engine would be a direct replacement? no?
obd2 was introduced in 96 and the vvti's didnt show up til 99, so i think between 96-99 are going to be my only options as far as years go
what other options might i have?

You can go with a 94-95 Camry/ES300/95 Avalon engine...the only physical difference from the 97 is the ignition coilpack arrangement. There are different airbox, radiator/condenser, electrical configs between all the 1MZ-FE configured cars.
Just curious, but why not just rebuild the motor?
Did not know about the 94 camry w/ obd2, that's pretty badass.
I have the airbox, ignition, etc everything is still in the car. I think it's going to be easier to swap in a used longblock. I have a tendency to replace everything once I break open an engine. I'm actually going to do this for a friend of my moms in exchange for some work on the house I just put myself into debt with.
Also the rod put a hole in the block lol
