I was wondering if someone could help me out here. I'm trying to find out the best option for improving my navigation experience without doing something unnecessary. First off, I don't know if this is normal for the stock system, but when I program a destination, it doesn't tell me to make a turn until I'm already there or sometimes even after I missed the turn. The maps are out of date too. I called the dealer to see how much a new map cd would be and almost fell out of my chair. I found some nice aftermarket in dash nav. systems but the downside is that they can't connect to the stock cd changer.
I was wondering if maybe there is another more modern nav. system from a newer model lexus that would fit in my car? Or is this one defective and I should just replace it? Or would it be cheaper just to do everything aftermarket? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I also need to upgrade the map DVD in my unit, but otherwise I'm happy with it's performance. But, if it ever fails I won't hesitate to replace it with something aftermarket with more features (iPod integration, for instance).
But... on the other hand, sometimes you're better off putting the $200 towards a new unit, things have changed a lot with this technology in 6-7 years.
on the nav unit there is a slot for a nav disc on my 06 es330. to update this unit, does it require the update disc left in or is it a install the update and then take the disc out and be done with it. seems one could buy, install and sell the disc or get a few friends to go together on one to cut costs. i mainly use an older garmin that i paid 120.00 for lifetime updates. now i think garmin dropped the price to around 90.00. it becomes frustrating using a nav that is not updated.
