Hi everyone. Sorry for being a noob but I've encountered a slight problem while installing LED lights for my 1998 ES300. Initially, I installed the two side door and front dome light without a hitch. The lights turned on and everything was good. Then I proceeded to install the back dome light. I placed the bulb in but it didn't turned on. After a while, I noticed that the front dome light went out and I couldn't turn it back on. Also, the 2 door lights which worked earlier became dim. Plus, the door lights remained on when I closed the door but turned off when the door was opened. Apparently after that, my remote to unlock and lock the car didn't work as well. I don't know what's going on but it'll be great if someone can point me in the right direction to fixing this thing. Thanks in advance!!

You blew the fuse in the engine compartment. Check the owners manual for which one, since the 98 may have it in a different location.

I did the same with my first set of LED's in my 2001.

You have to touch the LED with the leeds and see which way lights it up, since LED's are directional. Once you have the right location then install the LED.

 

Thanks for the info! I'll replaced the bad fuse when I get a hold of the owner's manual. As for the LEDs, I'm assuming the bulb are still good right? Are there any special precautionary steps I should take when reinstalling them so that the fuse won't be blown again? Would installing the polarities incorrectly be the cause of the blown fuse? Thanks!

 

Not so much as installing them incorrectly. That is a case of it either it works or it doesn't.

But be careful when placing the LED to the connectors... don't move them about.

It's hard to explain, i was messing about with one led in my front map light and after a lot of moving the led/spacing the connector it blew the fuse since it wouldn't handle it

So be 'swift' in installing them, like separating the connectors in the car to fit before 'test' fitting the LED itself.

If that even makes sense lol

Come to think of it, I did move the back dome light around a bit when I was installing them just because it was so hard to put in the new festoon bulb. I'll try to get take out the whole compartment and unplug the wires before installing them next time (after testing their polarities). I checked out your thread...pretty sweet lightings. You all done now?

Also, does anyone know where the blown fuse might be located on a 1998 es300? I know that there's a fuse box under the hood next to the engine but I heard some lexus model have one under the steering wheel as well??? I don't have an owner's manual since I recently acquired the car. Thanks!!

 

There is a fuse box behind the coon holder. It might be there. Remove the flip open coin holder to see the fuse box. The coin holder will snap out if you squeeze its sides and pull it out and downwards somewhat forcefully.

 

Yeah, i did this retrofit and completed it last year.

 

Thanks everyone for your help! It was the dome fuse that blew so I temporary used the radio fuse to finish installing the LEDs. All the lights are up and running. Just have to buy some new fuses when I get the chance. Many Thanks!!
