I have a 2002 ES300, with 130k miles. I have been averaging 22.X mpg for years.

Suddenly, the average is jumping all over the place. When I started my car last night, the avg mpg went from 23.8 to 18.1 in less than a minute while idling. And while driving it is fluctuating the same way.

Any ideas??? There is no loss of power, and it is running fine.

If it makes you feel any better, as far as I'm concerned the only part of that display that has any value is the "miles remaining". I checked my average mpg numbers with a few tanks of gas and it was low every time.

 

Well I am guessing that it is using the same numbers to calculate the miles remaining, so those numbers are bouncing too!

 

Winter fuel on my 98 I get about 23.5 +/- 0.5..Summer is around 25 to 25+ city...Keep a clean IVAC, TB, PVC, a nice air filter & good 0w-XX oil and you are good to go!
