Premium, middle grade or regular? (merged threads)
87 - 89 most of the time but runs just fine on regular too. I do seem to notice just a little better performance with the higher octane but nothing I could put my finger on and shout about. Mileage is about the same. I mix it up sometimes, not on purpose but the other cars in the household use regular and sometimes we forget and punch the wrong button or flip the wrong lever at the pump and just put regular in.

I've always used the cheaper 87 (or worse if it exists) before, but just tried 93 since my check engine light is on (presumably knock sensors). Noticed fullly topped off tank 335 miles of range. Seems like much better gas milage on the road. I've gone 60+ miles since fill up and only 1/8 tank down. Keep in mind my gas milage is likely way off because of the knock sensors, but it was downright horrible literally watching the needle fall with the last tank.
Already posted to this thread but just can't resist commenting about spending extra money for premium fuel. Usually the extra cost around this area from regular to premium is tens a gallon, $2 a tank. That's not very much money, especially if it helps the car run cleaner, a bit stronger, get a few more miles a tank of gas. Money better spent there than on some of the parts bought from the dealer only because "it's a Lexus". One less cup for coffee at Starbucks or even Micky D's.
Sometimes to save a little you need to spend a little, and with some cars, not all, a couple bucks more per tank for premium will save a whole lot more in the end. A bit more mileage, cleaner burning engine that stays tuned longer, exhaust system will last longer, your smile will stay longer with the nicer performance
96 ES 300 road mileage 27+ sometimes close to 30+. No CEL, no stumble

And you Americans whining about expensive gas over there... Please. It costs me 80$ to fill my tank with 87 at 1.22/L, when I go to the USA I laugh since it works out to 0.80/l for reg, and like 1$/l for premium. At least I'm not in Europe where my cousing spends 2.50-3$/L...

In Canada here, i put in 89. i have a 97 es300 with 118K miles. i get about 17-18 mpg city with 89. i will now put in 87 and see if it makes a difference. here in canada, they put alot of ethanol in most blends (except Shell premium ie 91). so i hope 87 wont make it worse but lets see!
