Default Question about CEL

The other day my CEL came on so I took it over to my local Lexus dealer and I got the folllowing codes P1410, P0402, P1411. My SA noted that I wouls have to get the entire EGR replaced which would be close to $400. I read somwhere on here that it could possibly be carbon build up that could easily be cleaned off and the CEL would reset itself. With those codes, could that be a possiblity and my SA is running game or with those codes I definitely need to replace the entire EGR valve?

You do not mention how many miles you have on the car. But it is possible that cleaning the carbon will fix the problem. The dealer has a lot of overhead, you are helping to pay for not only all of the equipment in the shop, but also warrenty repairs and recalls. The dealers have three different rate scheduals, Warranty, Recall, and customer. Quess who pays the most. Also realize that most mechanics are paid by book hours, not actual hours, and recalls pay nothing. Quess where their motivation is. There is also a thing called upsell.

A independent shop has much less overhead, they do not have to deal with warranty or recalls, and 10 year old technology do not require state of the art diagnostic tools.
