Question 99 es cel question

I went to auto zone and got codes of p071 bank 1 running too lean. I took car to a mechanic and he said i need 2 co2 sensors for the front of the car. The parts are about 150 a piece and i was wondering how urgent this fix is. If i continue to drive the car without getting it fixed will it create more problems. Also wondering if you think that mechanic knows what hes talking about..Also any help with a better price for these sensors would be appreciated thanks from Orlando,Fl.

By all means, I would recomend replacing them. $150 is way too expensive to pay for them. You can pick them up on ebay for as little as $30 each. Stick with the brand name units, such as Bosch.

If bank 1 is lean, why would you buy 2 sensors? You just need 1 for bank 1. I needed the same thing, and after replacing it, no probs. This part IS expensive. It's not an O2 sensor, it's a air/fuel ratio sensor. Looks like an O2 sensor, but it's not. I recommend OEM on this due to higher quality and it does run over $100. Bank 1 is the harder one to remove and can be done yourself, but you need to get under the car and know what you're doing. If you don't replace it, you will get poorer mileage and eventually destroy your catalytic converter due to too much combustion byproducts entering it because your system is in open loop and runs richer, thus burning more gas. It would take a long time for this to happen, but I'd replace it now if it was me.
