Okay here is the history on MP3's...

It is theortically possible that IF Lexus had been an early adopter of the technology the 1999 ES could have been capable. HOWEVER, they were not. I still can't find the difinative word on when CD-MP3 came into existance but it is a safe bet that it was post 2001 production years... For what ever that is worth.

I know that the .cda format works. Though for me I just bought a cheap tape adapter and plug my Zune in and play my mp3, wma, aac and mp4 content that way. It takes less time and is a heck of a lot easier.

The proud owner of a 345,500 mile 1999 Lexus ES300! She is still running smooth... =D

The Original Lexus Radio in your car, (and mine) will play your REGULAR recorded CDs. NOT MP3 files.

So depending on your CD, you can record and play approximately 70-80 Minutes.
