Tips on Pumping Gas
The local rag here has been trying to make an issue of "hot fuel", where fuel metering is adjusted to compensate for its temperature everywhere in the delivery infrastructure except at the point of sale to the consumer. Obviously, the petroleum industry is fighting this hard.
"The Kansas City Star, in a series of stories beginning in 2006, reported that consumers nationwide paid an estimated $2.3 billion more than they otherwise would have to because the year-round average fuel temperature was nearly five degrees higher than the nationwide standard."
