well, whatever happens happens. we were looking for a dead-engine camry in the first place, ya know couldn't find one of those for a reasonable cost, then the es250 occurred to us. just happened to stumble upon this one, right place right time right price.

went out and looked at another es250 today, they wanted 500 and it wasn't even near worth it. the thing looked like **** and that's putting it lightly. engine turned over but wouldn't fire... yeah. no thanks.

This purchase may not happen because of weird factors:
  • there just aren't that many out there
  • the ones that are out there are quite far away from me geographically
  • the ones that are out there typically need major work, as opposed to minor work (although the one above only requires minor work at first glance)
Mother Nature and Father Time are kicking the crap outta me on this car hunt.
That red one is not bad for a 91 with 195k miles on it. Seems like it was somewhat taken cared of.

Cool

Yeah and they got quite the price for it too.
I've got all kinds of folks with their eyes open, looking for one of these in fair to excellent shape for me now. I think I'm going to have to be very patient on this one.

Thumbs up

Oh man that's exactly the kinda deal I want...no hate at all...much love to CL bros who can find something like this for me. In fact, this one is PERFECT!

I just don't know how to swing an inspection of the car from here and transport when I find good non-local deals like this. Gawd I'd love to have it. If it passed an expert inspection and the CarFax test, I'd probably snap it up and add it to the garage.

I gotta hit up my local Craigslist more often I guess. That's exactly what I'm looking for.

There's got to be a way to get this done.
(In the meanwhile, time to research values on the valuation sites)
Edmunds review and values: It appears this Raleigh dealer is really trying to score a big margin on this one, eh?

I also found one local for $1900, but there are no pictures, no mileage, far less information...and I like how the one in Raleigh is a 5-speed....

willing to go look at it for ya if you're serious... raleigh's just a hop down the road from where we are. DH would love love love a 5spd but we don't have $3k to spend.

i hit up craigslist every couple days looking for a way to dump that old A540E into a dead-trans camry and clean up our hit-and-run story expenses. no luck yet.

I would take you up on that in a heartbeat, but given your bad news from yesterday, I know you folks have other distractions at the moment. Besides, I can't get the friggin' lister/seller to respond to my email, so apparently they're not serious about selling it, or it's already sold. Bummer all 'round...

What year Camry will that fit? A generation 2 Camry? Let me know and I'll keep an eye out on this side too.

well he's got free time, lol. who knows what the deal is with the locals here. sometimes i wonder. shame, looks like a nice car too.

the trans fits a 2vz-fe engine, so we're looking for 87-91 camry v6s or 90-91 es250s. wikipedia says up till 93 camrys had it, but i have yet to cross check in TIS to verify. it's great that they seem to last so long, and is in our personal interest given our 250 has the a540e in it, but damn we'd like to find a busted one. thanks for keeping an eye out for us.

Schweeeet! The Raleigh-based ES250 seller finally responded, and quite nicely:
This Lexus is a 90 model, no salvage, in good condition, I can provide a car fax report for you on Saturday that will list owners and somewhat a history report. Generally, all the cars that we have for sale are new car trade ins. Been at the same location for 25 years with a good reputation for having good cars.

On Saturday morning I will get a car fax report and forward it to you and other photos as time provides

Thanks for your interest.
I might end up with one worth having an expert check out after all.
Nope...stop that. I refuse to get my hopes up at all for those same reasons:
  • there just aren't that many out there
  • the ones that are out there are geographically impractical
  • the ones that are out there typically need major work, as opposed to minor work
We'll see.

Cool

I'd prolly buy an ES250 to turbo if there was a manual for sale around $900-1250. Otherwise... Old volvos.
