Default Personalized Settings

Well today was supposed to be THE big day for me.
I waited patiently for one month to have my personalized settings made to my ES-350 at the one month service checkup.

It turned out to be quite a disappointment.

The service manager (the fellow who didn’t know how to activate the recirc button) turns out to have a very short temper on top of not being particularly friendly.

I handed him my personalized settings request list and discussed each item with him before going for a walk in the Lexus building.

He indicated that item 6. probably wouldn’t be possible to achieve, but the rest looked doable.

Let me start with item 4. my Door Lock requests. Here’s what I gave him in writing:

- Shifting gears to Park now unlocks all doors --> turn this OFF!
- Shifting gears to position other than Park locks all doors --> OFF please!
No automatic door locking/unlocking, I will do it manually.

Here’s what the state of the car was when the job was done:

- Shifting gears to Park now unlocks all doors --> turn this OFF! **STILL ON**
- Shifting gears to position other than Park locks all doors --> OFF please! OK
No automatic door locking/unlocking, I will do it manually. SEE ABOVE

What were his comments when I pointed out that the doors were unlocking when the gear was placed into Park? “I don’t know if that can be done”.

So my first question to the experts here: Can all locking/unlocking of the doors be disabled when using the gear shift? The manual seems to indicate that it can.

Next, item 1. my Seatbelt reminder request. I read on this forum that *all* seatbelt reminders for all seats can be disabled. I requested this.
State of the seatbelt reminder now? It still beeps about 5 times when your seatbelt isn’t fastened. Then it leaves you alone.
Service manager said that can’t be changed. Question two: can *all seatbelt reminder beeps* be disabled?

Lastly, item 6. (this is the one that he mentioned probably couldn’t be done).
6. Turn off warning beep that sounds when engine is running and driver leaves car.
Does anyone know if this be achieved?

Thanks to all the experts here!

gear shifting issues yes.
looking at your cbes settings nothing about your seatbelt warnings.
the beeping when you leave I don't think so, will have to check.

I had the seatbelt buzzer turned off for driver and passenger, it took the dealer 2 tries to get it, but they did it.

The manual around page 409/410 I think shows all the possible settings that can be personalized.

Thanks!
I got the idea about the seatbelt warnings from reading a thread here a while ago, not from the manual.
Thanks for checking!

Static, can you please explain just how your seatbelt-disabled works?

Mine currently works this way (with minimal testing so far);
It will beep when you start the engine without fastening the seatbelt (5 times).
After that, with the engine still running, you can remove your seatbelt without any beeps.

Do you get any beeps at startup?

Thanks!

Well it took them almost an hour and a half to attempt just a few personalized settings (only half worked) and wash the car!

I live in Guelph and had to drive to Kitchener for the service.
Is there some sort of conspiracy where they have you come back two or three times before they get your settings right?

did your dealer give you a customization check sheet?
ours does not include this option. the owners manual says it can be disabled, but does not say how. could it be a canadian law thing? do you come to the gta much?

There are 3 beeps when the car is started and I think it doesn't matter wether seatbelt is fastened or not, after that nothing but the light on the dash if seatbelt not on.

Wife has the car right now, I'll confirm in the AM.

I'll check tomorrow whether it's 3 or 5 beeps.
It will only beep if you start the engine without wearing your seatbelt.
After that it seems ours is behaving the same.

No check sheet. There is a list of settings that can be changed in the owner's manual and in the shorter quick start manual, as well.

I went through the settings and chose the ones I wanted changed and printed them off on a sheet.

I come into the GTA once every few weeks usually.

The interesting thing is that on pg. 21 of the manual there are instructions that are supposed to let the USER make changes themselves to the door locking system. I tried to make the changes a couple of weeks ago but didn't have any luck.

the checksheet is available from your dealer, should have been given to you by your salesperson.
try pushing a different combo of buttons.

I started the car this AM with the seat on first (I usually don't do that), there was no seat warning at all, so you are definately right about that.

So I guess what they did was disable the warning beep that happens while the car is moving, which was really annoying.

I can't confirm the number of beeps because I think I got 1 beep for the windshield washer needing fluid and 1 beep for the upcoming 10K service, it has 9940~ miles now. 10k service is scheduled for tomorrow, so those errors will be cleared then.
