Front ABS Sensor Removal
I am replacing the driver's side strut and axle on my 92 ES300 and can not get the ABS sensor out of the spindle. I have removed the 10mm bolt and then tried prying on the bracket, twisting the sensor, tapped the bracket with a hammer. It is not moving. Any suggestions?
This may be in bad taste to answer my own thread, but after trying to remove the front left ABS sensor, I got my answer....avoid removing the ABS speed sensor from the hub at all costs (try detatching the connector from under the driver's side plastic wheel lining, the two wire mounts on the strut and then detach the hub if you have to). The plastic body to the sensor adheres to the mounting hole in the hub - adheres is a nice term. It melts into the hub casting. After trying a penetrating oil, I tried using a screwdriver to carefully pry out the sensor and prompty broke it. I spent an hour drilling the copper windings and pulling on the center metal stud before I finally got the broken sensor mess out. I then had to sand down the mounting hole surface in the hub to get the new one in. A new sensor runs from $135 - $190 depending on the dealer.
