Default CPO Question

I recently purchased a 2002 ES from a private dealer (non-Lexus dealer). When I was going through the mauals, I found the CPO warranty booklet. The warranty expires 11/16/2006. Does anybody know if that warranty transfers to me or was just for the person that bought the car with the CPO warranty? Thanks for any advice. I'll call Lexus if need be to find out, but figured that one of you will certainly know.

Well, I called Lexus and the answer is that the CPO warranty is not transferable to another person even though Lexus certified the car.

My 2001 owner's manual says the complete opposite. It states that "warranty coverage is automatically transferred at no cost to subsequent vehicle owners." However this applies to 2001 model-year Lexus vehicles (not sure if the policy changed for 2002 or later vehicles).

Lexus stated that the original manufacturers warranty transfers automatically to the next owner, but that a CPO warranty does not. Strange considering that it's the car that is warrantied and not the person buying it.

Got this right off the Lexus web site on cpo:
The warranty period begins on the date you purchase your Lexus Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. The Lexus Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty applies until 3 years lapse from the purchase date or 100,000 total vehicle miles, or the date on which you transfer your Lexus to a subsequent owner, whichever occurs first. This warranty is not transferable to any subsequent owner.

I know...it sucks
