Question CEL help please!

Ok Sunday on my ride home from Maine my CEL and VSC VSC off lights came on. I just had time today to pop into autozone and it pulled up code P0171something about sensor in bank one running lean? I had them erase and reset and from my 7 mile drive from Autozone to my house it has not come back on. I found a small thread using the search function and this code # in the RX forums but it wasn't all that useful to me. Can anyone else elaborate on this code?

Cool

If it doesn't come back you're fine. It happens all the time. The ECU will only trigger the codes after two cranks, or after one long amount of time running lean.

Thanks for your replies Phoenix and Koolaid. It has yet to come back on so until it does I'll assume everything is ok. Very informative post Phoenix I appreciate it.

Keep us updated Dom. I've had 2 instances where the CEL lit up in my '01 ES: One was for a bad charcoal canister (TRAC OFF also lit up), and the other was for a faulty solenoid in the transmission (which led to a reman tranny replacement at 98K miles!)

I just rolled over 110K last weekend, and she still drives like a beauty

You should think about scheduling a 90K service pretty soon. That includes replacing the timing belt, all fluids, drive belts, and the water pump if necessary. Be ready to dish out some moolah for this one. Depending on what service items you have/haven't done, estimated price is in the $1,200-$2,200 range.

thats if you go through the dealership. Here in colorado springs is a place that the toyo dealership recommended for that service.

Cost me under 400 including water pump. i didnt have all the fluids changed but that would just run me another 100.

Check around for people that do good work. This place was awesome because my top engine mount's bushing was toast! and they replaced if for me since it was out...for FREE!

`R

p.s. if you are ever in the area GRAYS Tire and Auto.

Default Back on again!

Comes on while I'm on the highway at steady speeds of 70-75mph. Looks like I'll have to get it looked at. I got a guy in Roslindale that has been a friend of the family for a while he treats me good and he knows his stuff.

Doug I did all of this when I got the car at 60K. I plan on changing most fluids and wanted to flush the tranny. Looks like its going to be sooner than later now.

Default Code P0171

Wanted to update everybody on this. I changed the MAF sensor or air flow meter as Lexus calls it. I paid $165 for the part and no labor for install. It's 2 phillips head screws and 5 minutes of your time. Well it's been a week and no light has come back on.
