Default Replacing Headlamp Casing

Hi All,

Well, a little fender bender up in in NYC. Not terribly surprising, but it did shatter my left turn signal (in the front) and headlight. I need to replace the casing and the turn signal bulb. I am wondering if this can be a DIY thing? I have a fairly extensive DIY repitoire. The Lexus dealer I am sure is going to charge me three arms and two legs for this, especially in Manhattan. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Anne

Hi Anne,

Your profile says you own a '96 ES, correct? It's pretty easy to replace the headlamp yourself. It's bolted down by (3) 10mm bolts from the top and side (you may have to remove the plastic shielding that sits atop the headlamps but that's not a big issue). You can find used ES headlamps either on Ebay, or a nearby junkyard. Note that the headlamps between a '96 ES is different than a '92-'94 ES. The former has 3 horizontal lines engraved across the headlamp and a dark chrome look on the inside, while the latter has no horizontal lines.

Good luck

Default Thank you

Thanks for all the info. As soon as the torrential rain is over, I will give it a try. I am surfing on ebay. Lexus told me the parts alone are $500. No way am I paying that!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Anne
