Default Highlander Alternator

I remebered reading that a Toyota highlander alternator was a direct replacement for the Es300. I have a 96 btw. I searched on it and it was mentioned a few times, but can anyone confirm this 100%? Highlander alternators are not cheap, so I don't want to buy one if it doesn't fit. Also, does anyone know where to buy one from? I have searched online and everyone says they are out of stock. Also, do all the highlanders use the same alternator. I noticed that there is a 4 and 6 cylinder and also 2wd and 4wd. Thanks in advance.

Default alternator

Ok this is the info i found out when doing my alternator switchout 2 weeks back. The highlander looks like it should fit. but you have to order it from your local pepboys or auto parts supplier. The highlander is usually to new for them to carry the parts. What i would do if seriously considering it. Is find one in junk yard and compare the 2. The reason i didnt do it is because i dont want to overload the delicate electrical system of the es300. I had an alternator spike through my electrical system and im still finding bulbs that i am trying to replace. lol

best of luck! and definately let us know if it works.

I found this on Toyotanation.com

If any of you V6 guys are looking for an upgrade to your stock 80-amp alternator, the Highlander has a 130-amp alternator option with the towing package. I installed one in my 1994 V6 Camry today and it was a direct bolt-in.
My dimming light issues have been solved. Best of all, it was only $60 shipped with a 6-month warranty. Just go to www.car-part.com and search for a 2003 Highlander alternator, then select the V6 130 amp option
