Help! 96 es300 code P0500
I bought a 96 es300 for my wife last summer and started to do a mechanical refresh. I changed the timing belt, water pump, plugs, wires, filters, calipers, rotors, cv axles, and suspension. Just when I thought I had it completely sorted I got a P0500 code. I replaced the VSS, but the code came back. The speedometer and cruise control work fine. The transmission does some funky things though, the fluid is good and it shifts fine manually. Does anyone know the procedure to test whether its the cluster or ecu? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have a Haynes manual, but its basically useless. The research I have done always brings me back to either a bad cluster or ecu.

Not sure if the above also applies to a 1996.
