Fob only works within 30 feet of car. is this common 97 es300

I have the same issue on my 1998 with new batteries. What I noticed is the battery holder in the fob is very loose or damaged from previously installed batteries that were oversized for the compartment. I decided to splurge and order one brand new fob from the dealer to see if it will increase the range. I will update you with how well it works in about a week.

 

1999 ES300 - my keyfob has been wishy washy, im also going to try new batteries. The plastic case is quite worn as well, im going to get a 3rd party key fob case replacement from amazon.

 

Added a new genuine Lexus key fob - same issue with the range. I can get maybe 30-40ft depending on the angle between the car and the fob.

The antenna for the wireless door lock system is placed inside the Door Lock ECU, which is located under the ash tray, right beneath the climate control unit. It is pretty easy to access and take apart, as far as I recall, so you might as well try taking a look at it. They can also be found for less than $10 on eBay, as one of the last resorts..
